The BARRACUDA® is the first of his kind and digs materials of up to 50MPa in a continuous operation to reduce running costs and CO2 emissions.
Mining Systems, a division of the equipment manufacturer thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions, received an order of the China Huaneng Group for the open-pit coalmine in YiminHe about a bucket wheel excavator based overburden system. Already in 2006 a Fully Mobile Crushing system was supplied by thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions to the YiminHe Mine and is operating successfully since then. Yiminhe Town is located in Inner Mongolia an autonomous region in the north of China and is well reputed for its reliable coal production.
The total system provided by thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions combines a BARRACUDA® C bucket wheel excavator with a capacity of 6700 lm³/h with a belt wagon, a conveyer system and a spreader. The scope of supply includes engineering, shipment, assembly supervision and the commissioning of the whole system. Beginning of operation in Yiminhe is scheduled for 2018.
BARRACUDA® has a compact architecture and a special bucket wheel design which is able to cut through hard material layers and will be used for excavation of overburden and coal. Subsequently to the extraction with the BARRACUDA® the material is transported over a belt wagon onto the conveyor, which transports the overburden to the dump site. The dumping of the material is carried out by the spreader system with a throughput rate up to 10.000 tons per hour.
